What's new at REEF?

Posted by REEF Custom Homes on Wed, May 25, 2016

REEF Builders offers complete design build services for custom homes throughout Cape Cod.  More importantly, REEF has an incredibly talented design team consisting of Jim Hagerty, who is also a principal and vice president,  Sara Hamiliton, assistant designer, and Cameron Savela, our draftsman.  Most of the time, they are working through important details and issues related to zoning, building code and other regulatory issues as they pursue permits for our projects, but occassionally, they do get a chance to show off their talents.

Here's a little project our team of expert designers is working on right now. This is a custom contemporary home designed to complement the dunes of the outer cape and capture the stunning sunsets across Cape Cod Bay!

The Classic "Cape"

Posted by REEF Custom Homes on Wed, Apr 06, 2016

The Cape Cod home's iconic and timeless design grew out of necessity, efficiency, and the harsh New England winters that greeted colonists as they arrived from Europe. The typical balanced front facade, centered on a large fireplace that provided necessary heat for cooking and warmth have been commonplace  features for centuries in our area.  Take a ride down Rout 6A and you will see several examples, many of which were built in the late 1600's and early 1700's.

Even today, as we design and build custom homes for our customers on Cape Cod, we still use the same proportions, and design details in many of our new homes, especially in the Old King's Highway Historic District. Many home designs you see all over the country are simple modifications of the classic Cape Cod design, with different dormers, window sizes or even slightly enhanced roof lines and trim.   If you are interested int he actuall history and evolution of this design - Below is an article from Yankee Magazine  with more information.

Ultimate Bathrooms

Posted by Matthew Teague on Tue, Aug 07, 2012

The Master Bathroom is one of the most important spaces in a New Home or Remodeling Project.  The emotional and aesthetic appeal of the space must balance with the functionality and utility of the various fixtures. A well designed Master Bath can be a showpiece and still meet all of the needs of the homeowner. There is a strong trend towards larger spaces with accessibility features such as curbless tubs and roll in showers that can meet the needs of a homeowner for years to come.

Here are some great designs we found from builderonline.com: Ultimate Bathrooms

10 Home Trends to Kiss Goodbye

Posted by Matthew Teague on Wed, May 02, 2012

In the past, REEF has always promoted new and exciting designs, products and features for new homes, renovation and remodeling.  So today, we thought we might try something different. We came across a very interesting article on MSN Real Estate that talks about 10 home trends that are quickly losing popularity.  Ranging from things like 2-story living rooms, to fancy jetted tubs, this article highlights the trends that builders and realtors are seeing across the country.  Custom homes often become a mix of features that customers have seen and liked elsewhere, but some of those choices don't make practical sense over the long term.

Click below to see the article, you might be surprised: http://realestate.msn.com/kiss-these-10-once-popular-home-features-goodbye?#2
