   As a Custom Home Designer,  Builder, and Remodeling Contractor on Cape Cod, REEF is always watching trends in design and finishes. We came across this report from the National Kitchen and Bath Association about the top 5 trends in kitchens for 2012.  The NKBA surveyed 350 of its members about these trends and they came up with some interesting information.  From Kitchen Cabinet Styles, to Backsplashes, to Faucets, this article provides some insight into the current trends in kitchen design.

   Bathrooms are one of the most important rooms in any home.    Kids Bedrooms are always tricky, and sometimes overlooked in the design and construction process.  As a custom home builder, renovation and remodeling firm, specializing in design-build project, we here at REEF try to take all of the new spaces into account.  Designing a room for one child can be simple, but designing for a shared bedroom can be challenging.     The recession over the last few years resulted in dramatic changes in the Building, Remodeling, and Renovation market on Cape Cod.  Homeowners made decisions to do projects that would add long-lasting value.  Nationally, the trends were the same, and recently US News published an article discussing this very issue.  They found that the 3 most popular investments were In-Law apartments, Kitchen renovations, and Outdoor Living spaces. As Custom Home Builder and Design firm here on Cape Cod, we have noticed similar trends.

   Creating a great home office has become a regular request over the last several years. Whether remodeling, renovationg or building a new custom home, the home office has become one of the most sought after rooms in a home.  Over the years we have seen a move away from things like formal dining rooms and living rooms.  With the ability for most people to work remotely in a home office environment, and investment in a well-designed and efficient home office makes sense.

    REEF is a Design / Build company and as such, our project team owns the project performance and finished product right from the start.  When considering design, use of spaces, and ideas for expansion, people often become trapped in two dimensions.  Taking advantage of all of the possibilities of your property can have dramatic results.  Instead of adding a 2nd story on a home with a sloping lot, why not add a 2nd story on the lower basement side of the house, and maximize the available space and slope. In many cases, this can save money and time, especially when considering expensive retaining walls or foundations to  support a new structure. 

 We found this interesting article from HOUZZ.com that took a plain old colonial and really turned it into something unique.
