There’s a lot of coastline on Cape Cod. We love it. But the beauty and serenity come at a price. Storms, wave action, surges all take a toll on the beaches…and the nearby homes. Much of our work is done on homes that overlook or abut beaches, marshes and inlets. We are constantly designing homes and renovations to accommodate inevitable natural events, like storms and hurricanes.

The Massachusetts Office of Coastal Zone Management (CZM) developed the StormSmart Coasts program to “assist communities and people working and living on the coast by providing information, strategies, and tools to help address challenges arising from erosion, flooding, storms, sea level rise, and other climate change impacts”.

They are a great resource for information on how to protect on of your largest assets, your beach home. Here’s some tips from CZM on the importance of “Freeboard”, basically lifting beach homes above the surge expected from passing storms.
